joy in the moment

I recieved an e-mail from Andre the other day. It contained beautiful photographs from some yong students in New Orleans. Sometimes it is challenging to find joy in the moment especially when things around you are difficult. When I hear stories of Buddhist Monks and Nuns in jail undergoing terriable tortures I marvel at their faith and connectedness. Some days when I am not feeling well or when i have heard of the terriable situations of people or animals on this planet I have to work hard to find my connection again. Andre has been teaching students in the Air Port communities...He has been teaching the kids to look through the cameras and find something beautiful... below are some of his words and one of the students photos that I found truly powerful!

The Humanity of the Animals

They stretch and crawl and roll up into furry balls of fur. They roar and bark, swim, sing, take wing and snore. They are the four-leggeds,the finned ones and the ones who fly. They are our guides and companions and the wild things in the big wilderness.Animals, fish, insects and birds are the messengers from the great spirit sent here to help us remember our humanity, for many of us have fallen asleep and have been distracted by our self-created techno-world taking the place of our instincts and making life all too deadly and deadeningly "easy" for us.Push-button-push-button.
