It's not easy being green........

Sometimes when I am cleaning out yet another container for the recycle bin... I think of Kermit and his song, "it's not easy being green".. then I smile and keep cleaning..
At the same time there is some reality to this, in a consumer world where the products are more designed to seduce you into purchase AND where convenience is the word of the hour.....we have lots of containers/packages that are a waste. Not only is the actual container wasting away in a dump somewhere, but the energy and resources wasted to make said container and packaging....well you know all about it....any how recycling the suit bird containers is quite the process, it takes me a while to clean all of the fat out of the little corners AND I thought cleaning cat food cans was a mess! I am thinking that I would much rather have Large containers of tooth paste, than try cleaning out the little, plastic vessel it comes in! If we are clever enough to come up with all these cute little packages than I think we are cleaver enough to come up with ways to dispose of them properly or, Here's a thought!! make less of them in the first place!!I would much rather have some planer, easier container that I can go refill!
I am interested in hearing your thoughts on being green! How many of you recycle? How many recycle everything you can? Recycle some of the time?...If we as the consumer demanded more product and less packaging.....after who has the power? :)

I've lived in alot of places. Some cities and towns do make it easier to be green. Some of us need to work harder at it. In phoenix a household could put all their recycleables in one large container (unsorted) and it would be picked up on trash day. Excellent...but a concerned citizen wrote into the paper wanting to know if she was wasting more energy in the form of hot water to scrub out p-nut butter jars. Well the answer is if you fill them with cold water and soak...it comes right out. In Hawaii my friend had a weekly pick up bin for recycles and she never used it. I ransacked her trash basket and kept making little trips to the bin outside. In Exeter N.H. the town fathers were wise. Everyone is given a bin for recyables, any material could be put in these if they have the symbol. This is picked up free. All other trash had to go into special bags that cost $1.00 each. You can bet most people recycle there. Personally I like to buy items I use the most in quantity. Less packaging. I bought 2 reusable grocery bags. They were only $1.00 at the store, are very sturdy and hold alot. I keep them in my car so I don't forget to bring them. I buy most of my clothes at resale/thrift stores wear them awhile then redonate them. You can find good stuff if you look. My favorite cleaner is Simple Green it can be used for almost everything. Biodegradable, and smells good. OK that enough from me. Except, CHANGE YOUR LIGHTBULBS! The new energy savers are great. Save'$ $$$$ and now come in all shapes and sizes. They burn longer, cooler and you could live a greener life.

recycling is part of being conscious and the earth. To save it (earth)and to share it with other creatures. Keeping that in mind, we make the effort.

Our neighborhood helps make it easier by giving containers in which to place clean paper, cardboard, tin, glass and plastic. The grocery store has large receptacles to recycle the plastic bags which makes it easy to pop a bunch in - only to walk out with more. It's a small effort but if everyone did it, what a cleaner, greener earth we would have:)

We keep on trying...

Clean and green, I like that, It has a good feel to it! One step at a time, it is a good way to go. One step at a time from the present moment filled with happiness and Joy. It is a good thing to remember to have fun with it all and to en--joy every moment...
